Karon Argue

smoochThis past week we had local illustrator/author Karon Argue in our Learning Commons with her first book The Smooch (available through her website or at Bearberry Lane in High River, AB).  Karon’s presentation of winsome illustrations and rhyming text were a true delight to the kids. Karon’s personal story poignantly models perseverance and the importance of community and team work, values wonderfully portrayed in The Smooch.  Karon is now legally blind and uses assistive technology to continue to produce her vibrant illustrations. She has 5 more books in the works!  Watch for them!

Stacks of books

5230098773_babc34eb95_o (1).jpgA great way to start the holidays is to arm you and your family with stacks and stacks of books from your local library.  So let’s snuggle in with a good book or ten this vacation and read read read!

New Katherine Applegate Book!

crenshawRead this little gem over the weekend and can’t wait to use it as a read-aloud for our great Cayley School kids.  A beautiful tender novel about family and struggle and honesty.  Crenshaw.  I highly recommend it!

Ahhh…the wonder of being absorbed in a good book.  The joy of shutting away the rest of the world and disappearing on a spectacular adventure with the characters in a book!

If you Plant a Seed

IMG_20151118_140606This beautiful book by Kadir Nelson is a book for our time.  Plant kindness instead of selfishness and just wait and see the amazing and wonderful things that grow.  Really looking forward to sharing this with my students tomorrow.

Goddess Girls

Just new to our collection!  Thanks Taylor for the recommendation – definitely a ‘good fit’ series for girls 8 –  12 (and you’ll learn a lot about Greek Mythology too!)
